A story about the dreams and love of young people who also carry wounds and trauma. Dreaming of becoming a film director one day, Kim Mu Bi, an assistant director, wants to follow in her father’s footsteps, who worked as a filming crew member and who loved movies more than her. After entering the film industry, she quietly honed her skills, not drawing attention to herself in the eyes of others. On the other hand, Ko Gyeom, who stands out too much, rose from being an extra actor to becoming a film critic. He loves movies so much that his goal is to watch all the movies made in the world. He meets Mu Bi on the set of a melodrama film and gets very curious about her because of her name, which sounds like “movie.” Meanwhile, Hong Si Jun thinks of himself as a genius, but he is still an unknown songwriter. His ex-girlfriend, Son Ju A, works as a screenwriter.

*MeloMovie* is a drama that explores passion, fate, and the lingering pull of past emotions. At its core, the story follows Ko Gyeom, a former aspiring actor turned film critic, and Kim Mu Bi, an assistant director who worked her way up to directing. Their relationship begins with curiosity: Ko Gyeom’s relentless interest in Mu Bi seems one-sided at first, but it slowly chips away at her guarded exterior. A kiss feels like a confirmation, yet instead of bringing them closer, Ko Gyeom vanishes.
Years later, their paths cross again, once more through film. Cinema isn’t just their shared profession; it’s the thread tying them together. Ko Gyeom, despite having left the industry, never truly lets go of his love for movies – or, by extension, for Kim Mu Bi.
Yet, the connection isn’t one-sided. Just as he remains tethered to her, the world of film seems to embrace him in return. From industry veterans like Ma Seong-woo and his supportive colleagues to the kind-hearted rental store owner (played by Kim Young-woong) who guided him years ago, Ko Gyeom is welcomed back with warmth and nostalgia. Film loves him back, just as much as he loves it.
For Mu Bi, the return of Ko Gyeom disrupts the carefully constructed distance she built. She tries to push him away, yet her curiosity betrays her. His reappearance may not just be an emotional trigger—it might be the key to healing the deep wounds left by her father.
*MeloMovie* weaves the excitement of rediscovery with the bittersweet echoes of the past, asking whether love, much like film, can bring two people back together against all odds.
